Mini-moto master Richard Sanders bought a pocket-sized bike at the start of the year as a bit of fun and to keep his teenage son company.

Now he's established himself as one of the best riders in the North of England and is already planning next season's search for silverware.

Richard, a 36-year-old self-employed joiner from Norton, has just finished third in the North and Eastern Counties Championship 4.2 horsepower heavy class.

But winning trophies was the last thing on his mind when he took up the fast-growing sport in which riders compete around karting tracks on pocket-sized 40 or 50cc machines.

"My son, Matthew, wanted a motocross bike for Christmas last year," explained Richard, a road bike rider of many years' experience.

"But we were watching mini-moto racing on Men and Motors TV.

"I asked him if he fancied a mini-moto bike instead and he said 'OK then'.
