Injured Dyer Will Miss UEFA Cup Clash

Kieron Dyer is out of tomorrow night's Uefa Cup tie in Switzerland after Sir Bobby Robson opted to save his England midfielder's legs for Sunday's tough trip to Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle's former Ipswich favourite returned to full training on Monday but felt his injured hamstring and will not now be risked in Switzerland.

Dyer will stay behind to top up his fitness and now seems certain to return to the first team fold when Robson takes his squad to title challenging Chelsea at the weekend.

Nolberto Solano will start against the current leaders of the Swiss First Division, with Lee Bowyer serving the fifth game of a six match suspension from European competition.

And Steve Caldwell will drop down to the bench with Andy O'Brien fully recovered from last Friday's bout of food poisoning. Robson expects one of Newcastle's toughest games of the season in front of a capacity St Jakob-Park crowd and the people of Basel are buzzing ahead of their club's biggest match of the season so far. …
