Teesside golf guru Steven Carpenter has come to the rescue of a promising young European golfer.

German starlet Sebastian Neumeyer, 18, arrived on Teesside having seen his handicap soar from four to six in the last 12 months.

And Wilton pro Steven has helped his young protege get back on the road to golfing stardom.

Prior to moving to Wilton earlier this year to work with club pro Pat Smillie, Steven had spent 16 years teaching in Germany.

And during that time he coached Sebastian down to a handicap of 3.6.

But once Steven left Germany, the young star started to struggle - which prompted him to come in search of his old mentor.

"Sebastian is definitely one to watch for the future," said Steven.

"He is strongly built and hits the ball well. When I left Germany his game was in good shape and I put him in touch with another coach. …
