Gazette's Dave and Doug Land Top Picture Prizes

Two Evening Gazette photographers have landed leading photographic prizes.

Dave Charnley, who lives in Stockton, has scooped the top prize of pounds 500 in the North-east round of the National Farmer's Union British Farming photography competition, while work colleague Doug Moody was highly commended for his work in the fourth year of the Commonwealth Photographic Awards with a picture of villagers from Stainton celebrating after winning more than pounds 80,000 on the Lottery.

Dave's winning snap depicted a sheep silhouetted against a dramatic stormy sky in Stokesley.

Dave beat off competition from 80 entrants and now goes on to compete in the national competition where a prize of pounds 1,000 is up for grabs.

Dave is no stranger to awards.

Earlier this year the dad-of-two was named Newspaper Society Photographer of the Year, and was highly commended at the Trinity Mirror newspaper awards in the sports photography category. …
