Telephone directories group Yell has posted a 7pc rise in turnover to pounds 586.6m and declared its first dividend after its flotation earlier this year.

Yell, which floated on the London Stock Exchange in July, said it had made pre-tax profits before one-off items of pounds 22.1m in the six months to September 30, against a pounds 17.3m loss last time.

Announcing an interim dividend of 3p per share, the group said the good results reflected strong organic growth.

Chief executive John Condron said: "We are well on track to meet expectations for the full year."

Yell is the biggest supplier of classified directory advertising in the UK and also has substantial operations in the US, employing about 8,000 people in the two countries.

In the UK, it has four businesses - Yellow Pages, Business Pages, Yell.com and the 118247 telephone service formerly known as Talking Pages.

In the UK, turnover increased 3pc to pounds 314.6m, with printed directories growing 3pc to pounds 295. …
