So Hard to Find a Fault

Al Forno, Jesmond Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Tel: (0191) 281 2012.

I don't know about you but on a cold, wet Monday night (and it was in October) I don't expect to have to wait for a table. But that's exactly what we had to do at Al Forno.

Meanwhile the cold offerings included fine sliced marinated beef with rocket leaves, Parmesan cheese and the chef's own dressing (pounds 5.95) or chicken liver pate (pounds 4.25), amongst many others.

Our party of four decided to forego the starters and have a selection of tomato and cheese garlic breads (pounds 2.35 each) to munch on.

As you'd expect, there was plenty of pasta and pizza dishes to choose from plus a vast choice of chicken, meat and fish dishes. …
