A wind farm won't blow holes in a multi-million pound seaside scheme, developers say.

Persimmon Homes want to redevelop Redcar's Coatham Enclosure in a mixed housing and leisure project.

A key component will see three blocks of plush apartments, right on the sea front.

With plans for a wind farm just a mile offshore, including up to 30 wind turbines, it means the flat owners will get rooms with a very distinctive view.

But Persimmon planning and land manager Simon Usher says the turbines may even prove something of a selling point.

He told the Gazette: "It's a very subjective issue although personally, I quite like them.

"I think they are graceful structures which remind us all of the need to produce energy from renewable resources.

"There'll be enough people out there who think the same way and would be happy to see them when they open their curtains in the morning."

Around 96 sea front apartments are planned, raised to allow parking underneath and to prevent sand blasting in off the beach. …
