A teddy bear signed by George Bush and Tony Blair during their pub lunch in the North East could be sold off at one of the big London auction houses.

It was the day of the BBC Children in Need appeal and Labour Party workers armed with three Pudsey bears went to the Dun Cow Inn in Sedgefield where the President and First Lady were lunching with the Blairs.

The President and his wife had spotted children wearing Pudsey badges before they dropped in at the Dun Cow and asked what it was all about.

John Robinson of Sedgefield Labour Party then presented one of the teddy bears to Mrs Bush and another to Cherie Blair.

The third then became one of the most important teddy bears in the world when Mr Robinson asked the President and Mr Blair if they would sign it, which they happily agreed to do.

It was later shown to viewers as part of the Children in Need appeal by Wendy Gibson of BBC Look North but was not sold. I understand there is talk of selling it to the highest bidder at one of the big auction houses, Sotheby's or Christie's.

Meanwhile, when the First Lady boarded Air Force One for the trip back to America, her Pudsey was safe in her baggage. One Labour insider confided: "Mrs Bush said she was over the moon to be taking the bear back to America."

ALAS, Jonny Wilkinson will not be allowed to graze any cattle he may possess on the Town Moor when he's installed as an honorary Freeman of Newcastle. It's a common misconception that becoming an honorary Freeman brings with it grazing rights.

In fact, it's only hereditary Freemen descended from the ancient trade and merchant guilds of the 12th Century who, as guardians of the Moor, can graze their cows.

Newcastle's new Rugby World Cup hero can however look forward to joining an exclusive band of people which include Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer. …
