Seaside Resorts Are Set to See the Winter Lights

Article excerpt

It's lighting up time at the seaside - and lifeboat crews are on hand to help.

Arrangements have been announced for Christmas light switch-on ceremonies in Redcar, Saltburn and Marske.

Redcar's indoor lifeboat crew replace Santa's reindeer to lead a parade along the High Street on November 30, before the switch-on by Redcar and Cleveland's Mayor Norah Cooney.

Entertainment will be provided from 3pm, including music from Beatlemaniacs and BBC Radio Cleveland's Stewart McFarlane's breakfast show from 9am to noon from the High Street.

Santa's grotto opens in High Street from Monday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm weekdays, 10.30am to 3.30pm Saturdays and 1pm to 3pm Sundays.

Car parks - except Morrisons - are free after 2pm from December 1 to 24.

In Saltburn, Mayor Norah Cooney will be back on switch-on duty, along with community bobby Stuart Smith, at 5pm on Saturday.

Brass bands, Punch and Judy and Specky the Clown will provide entertainment and there's an outdoor market from 10am to 4pm. …
