PART OF DEFUNCT THEME PARK TO BE DEVELOPED
OCALA -- A 358-unit residential community will someday replace vacant land that was once part of the Six Gun Territory theme park in Northeast Ocala.
Developer Furman Clark of Amelia Island says his Oak Hills Plantation will be a gated subdivision with homes likely in the $95,000 to $140,000 range. Clark, operating under the name Oak Hills Plantation Developers, LLC, recently paid $3.58 million for about 160 acres previously owned by Virginia developer Richard Walters, his wife Roberta, and the Walters' Southern Hills, Ltd.
We are excited about all of it," said Clark, who is developing other residential property in the greater Jacksonville area. "There is no question about the east side of Ocala. It's the next big growth area."
DAYTONA BEACH WATER PARK DEAL FALLS THROUGH
DAYTONA BEACH -- A $2.23 million deal to sell a shuttered Daytona Beach water park to a California developer fell through Tuesday, an attorney for the developer said.
Doug Daniels, an attorney for Carlsberg Management Co. in Los Angeles, said the closing on the sale of Adventure Landing did not take place as scheduled because of financing problems.
He said that it was difficult to work out all the financing necessary not only to buy the park but to renovate it and add amusements.
The $15 million park has been closed since September 2002 after failing to make enough money to stay afloat.
However, Daniels said the deal isn't dead. "I think it will eventually go through," he said.
Carlsberg Management president and principal shareholder Bill Geary could not be reached for comment.
Geary's company, which also is heading up the redevelopment of the nearby Daytona Beach Boardwalk, was slated to purchase the park from Jacksonville-based Adventure Entertainment under a plan the Volusia County Council approved in August.
The county is involved because it owns the 5 acres the park sits on off State Road A1A. …
