National racket sport chief David Felgate reckons the Middlesbrough club is one of the best in the land.

Felgate, performance director of the Lawn Tennis Association and former coach to Britain's number one player Tim Henman, gave the Marton Road complex his glowing endorsement when officially opening its new courts.

He said Tennis World - which includes three bubble-enclosed clay courts and six revamped outdoor surfaces - is "a fantastic facility".

"It's among the top five I've seen in the country and where British tennis needs to go and continue to go," enthused Felgate.

"It's a club with a great environment and a great set of coaches who understand what performance is all about.

"There is a good mix of adults and children playing here.

"If a player is going to be a potential champion you need players of all different levels to improve against their peer groups.

"Clubs need to be places where youngsters want to hang out and that is the atmosphere they're creating here. …
