Police today fear for the safety of a woman who went missing from South Tyneside General Hospital.

Kathleen Langton left at 1pm yesterday and was last seen in Harton Lane, South Shields. She was on medication and would have been drowsy.

The 39-year-old, from Derby, does not know the area well and police are asking anyone who knows of her whereabouts to get in touch.

She is 5ft 2in, of slight build, with short brown hair shaved at the sides and was last seen wearing black canvas trousers, black shoes and a grey-blue padded jacket.

A pounds 200,000 grant has been awarded to campaigners to help them argue for and against a North regional assembly. Regions Minister Nick Raynsford has set an upper limit of pounds 665,000 on expenditure by the yes-and-no campaigns in next autumn's referendum.
