The premiere of 'Cold Mountain'

Minghella, Kidman, Law: a heavyweight line-up for a premiere. It was not surprising that the film was watched by Prince Charles and the after-party was held in grand old style at the Royal Opera House. The effect was of an elegant ball: Piper-Heidsieck champagne served in Royal Doulton crystal goblets, grownup eats such as delicate smoked haddock fishcakes with chive mayonnaise, and a strapping Bourbon cocktail for those feeling a little naughty. Something Ms Kidman was clearly feeling, for later she sped off to Aspinalls for a late-night gamble.

Fairy night

The premiere of 'Peter Pan' Christmas came early for the 1,000 children who flocked to the premiere of Peter Pan, all in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. At the after-party, held in a marquee in Victoria Embankment Gardens, there was Nana the St Bernard to cuddle, Captain Hook (actor Jason Isaacs) to be frightened of and, if that wasn't scary enough, Alan Cumming in an eye patch waving a plastic sabre. …
