Bosses at a hospice for terminally ill children are confident they will pass their final inspection next week, before opening for the first patients.

Staff at Zoe's Place, in Normanby, are being visited by officers from the National Care Standards Commission next Wednesday.

Inspectors will examine health and safety standards, fire regulations and policies, before the site can be officially registered as a children's hospice and start taking in patients.

General manager Mark Guidery said: "The hospice is basically finished now, so it is just a question of when we get the inspection out of the way.

"The inspectors will check the hospice is suitable for its purpose - every organisation has to go through it.

"Once it is cleared we can register as a children's hospice and start to take people in almost straight away - we just have to keep our fingers crossed."

A team of 20 full-time staff and up to 12 part-time care workers will support children and their families when the hospice opens its doors. …
