Drug-bust police are today celebrating major seizures on Teesside.

In raids carried out by Stockton drugs unit, backed by district support colleagues, a man and woman in their 60s were among those arrested.

Officers armed with search warrants swooped on addresses in the Newbury Way and Sherburn Avenue area of Billingham last night and recovered about pounds 12,500 worth of heroin and pounds 1,000 in cash.

Two men, aged 60 and 29, and two women - aged 63 and 29 - were arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply in the raids carried out at about 6pm.

The four were being interviewed by drug squad detectives today.

The raids come in the wake of other big seizures in the area - earlier this week about pounds 8,000 worth of heroin was recovered in Stockton town centre.

And a massive pounds 125,000 worth of heroin plus pounds 100,000 in cash was recovered in the Park Road area last month.

Sergeant John Coates, of the district support unit, said: "This was an excellent all-round effort by everybody concerned in this substantial recovery of heroin, proving our commitment in the fight against drugs in the Stockton area. …
