Clichy on Call as Wenger Shuffles Pack

GAEL CLICHY is set for a further opportunity to enhance his reputation as one of the most exciting young players to emerge at Arsenal this season.

The 18-year-old French defender will come in for Ashley Cole against Middlesbrough at Highbury if, as expected, the England fullback fails to recover from a shoulder injury picked up against Everton in Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Cole is rated as a "big doubt" for the Premiership clash against a team Arsenal will face at least four times in the next 18 days. Wenger went as far as to withdraw Clichy, who impressively filled in for Cole while he served a recent threematch ban, from his usual strenuous training session with the reserve squad.

"I want to make sure he is fit because he might be needed," said Wenger, who could also be without Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure, who suffered a bruised foot in the Everton game, as well as Dennis Bergkamp and Sylvain Wiltord.

Lauren will come in if Toure drops out of contention for what Wenger calls the most crucial of the clashes with Middlesbrough. …
