FLORIDA GATORS

Primary position needs: Linebacker, defensive back, defensive line, offensive line, tight end.

Main targets: WR Mike McIntosh (6-2, 180) of First Coast; CB Dawayne Grace (6-1, 172) of White; CB George Timmons (6-0, 175) of Columbia; LB Keith Rivers (6-3, 220) of Lake Mary; TE Tate Casey (6-6, 220) of Longview (Texas); DE Brandon Miller (6-4, 218) of Miller (Ga.) County; WR Xavier Carter (6-2, 190) of Melbourne Palm Bay; QB Cornelius Ingram (6-4, 195) of Hawthorne.

Commitments: WR Lance Leggett (6-3, 180) of Arlington (Texas) Grace Preparatory Academy; DE Brandon Daniel (6-4, 250) of Pompano Beach Ely; TE Markell Thompson (6-7, 260) of Southwest Mississippi J.C.; S Kyle Jackson (6-1, 190) of Fletcher; S Tony Joiner (6-0, 175) of Haines City; RB Markus Manson (6-0, 190) of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest; DE Jeremy Mincey (6-3, 255) of Butler County J.C.

Available scholarships: 20-25.

Outlook: The Gators need a lot of help on defense in 2004 after the graduation of eight starters -- especially at linebacker and in the secondary. Florida would love to pick up some skill-position players on offense (Casey, Ingram, Leggett, Carter), but incoming freshmen will have more of a chance to play on defense. The Gators already have proven they will start freshmen (LBs Channing Crowder and Earl Everett and QB Chris Leak), so that might be a drawing card for some players.

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

Commitments: QB Drew Weatherford (6-2, 195) of Land O' Lakes; RB Jamaal Edwards (6-0, 200) of Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley; WR DeCody Fagg (6-3, 185) of Quincy Shanks/Hargrave (Va.) Available scholarships: 20-22.

Outlook: The Seminoles got off to a strong start and appear poised for another top-shelf class that extends beyond the scope of the listed main targets. FSU appears to be in good shape with nationally-acclaimed DLs DeMario Pressley, Aaron Jones and Brandon Miller, LB Lawrence Timmons and CB Trevor Ford. And expect another significant haul from the First Coast with CB Tony Carter (Mandarin), OL Cornelius Lewis (Raines), WR Mike McIntosh (First Coast) and CB Dawayne Grace (White) high on FSU's list. …
