Dog owners who allow their pets to foul pavements face being named and shamed by a Middlesbrough councillor.

John McPartland, a councillor for the Middlehaven ward, has fired off letters to residents in the "trees area" of the ward following complaints about irresponsible dog owners.

He said a small number of people were allowing their dogs to foul the pavements.

"Then those irresponsible and law-breaking owners refuse to clean up after their dogs. This is a health hazard, dangerous and unsightly.

"I suspect that these dog owners probably take little care of their dogs in other ways, and this makes the dogs susceptible to all kinds of ailments, including toxicara, worms and fleas.

"These irresponsible people care little for their neighbourhood in the way that decent and law-abiding residents do," said Cllr McPartland.

He said residents should not have to tolerate the anti-social behaviour of the minority of dog owners. …
