A man who carried a loaded shotgun into the Jacksonville City Hall Annex and aimed it at his former boss was sentenced to four years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.

Eulogio Colon had been charged with attempted murder for the April 4 incident, which ended when employees in the city engineering division tackled him before any shots were fired.

Colon, 46, carried the 12-gauge shotgun and nearly two dozen rounds of ammunition hidden in a duffel bag past security and up to the eighth floor. He had been fired Feb. 14.

The case renewed concern about security at the annex -- which houses city and court employees and domestic violence counselors -- and prompted city officials to limit entrances into the Bay Street building.

In accordance with the plea bargain reached by Colon and prosecutors, Circuit Judge Henry Davis sentenced Colon to a year of probation after his prison sentence, during which he can't have contact with his intended victim or his family.

DUI manslaughter charge

The Jacksonville driver of a pickup that ran off Lannie Road, struck several trees and killed a passenger in November was charged with DUI manslaughter Friday, police said.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement blood test showed Russell was impaired under state limits.

Drumheller was wearing a seat belt but the truck's passenger side was crushed around him, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Russell was arrested Friday.
