STEPHANE DALMAT today urged Tottenham to start contract talks if they want to make his move to White Hart Lane from Inter Milan a permanent one.

Dalmat is on a season-long loan with Tottenham after the 25-yearold spurned a switch to Middlesbrough last summer after realising he would struggle to be part of the first team set-up at Inter Milan.

He will return to Italy in June but says he would still consider making his move to Spurs a permanent one.

Dalmat, who was praised by acting manager David Pleat for his part in helping Spurs secure a 1-1 FA Cup fourth round draw at Manchester City on Sunday, said: "Tottenham is an immense club but at the end of the season, I will return to Milan. For the moment, I am concentrating on my game and, with regard to my future, we will see after that.

"I want to help Tottenham to qualify for a European place. But I will leave the door open. Maybe there will be offers from Italy or Spain. I do not know.

"It is not impossible to stay at Tottenham. If Spurs want to keep me, it will be necessary for them to sit down around the table and discuss it. I wanted to discover England, which is such an attractive championship, and I needed to see another way of life.

"Middlesbrough wanted me too but, for me, Tottenham are a more ambitious club, rich in history.

They are a big name in English football."

Christian Ziege has staked a claim for a first team recall after completing another 90 minutes in Tottenham's reserves.

The German international, out since October with a knee injury, came through unscathed as the second string beat Portsmouth 2-0 with goals from Bobby Zamora and Mark Yeates.

However, Yeates was later sent off for two bookable offences and there was no place in the line-up for midfielder Jamie Redknapp, who only returned to first team training last week after a knee injury. …
