Carlisle stretched their unbeaten run of home form to five with a battling win against Bury to record their first double of the season.

The game was never for the connoisseur as the players battled atrocious weather conditions.

A blizzard dominated the one minute's silence for the sad passing of Bob Stokoe, who had managed both sides.

Carlisle will be disappointed they made up no ground on Darlington and Southend, who also won, but the teams above the bottom three now look less secure and occupancy of the two relegation slots come May, is no longer a three-horse race.

Manager Paul Simpson praised his players, who gave everything he could have asked.

He said: "Everybody fought for every ball.

"But if we have to have the next run of games scrapping like that in every one of them I don't care, so long as we keep battling for each other, show the spirit we have shown and get the win like we have today. …
