An off-duty Clay County officer was arrested for drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident after hitting two mailboxes in his Orange Park neighborhood after his return home from watching the Super Bowl at a sports bar Sunday night, authorities said.

Seneca G. Leborgne, 26, was arrested by the Orange Park Police Department at 1:30 a.m. Monday, more than two hours after police said a neighbor saw Leborgne hit mailboxes in front of two residences on Judson Circle about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The neighbor later told police that he had witnessed the incident and watched as Leborgne "backed up and left the scene." When he walked over to the officer's residence to confront him about the accident, he said, Leborgne offered to "pay for the mailboxes," according to a police report filed later that night.

When an Orange Park police officer went to Leborgne's home to question him about the incident, he stated in his report that Leborgne "had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath" and was unsteady on his feet.

After advising Leborgne of his rights, the Orange Park officer said, Leborgne admitted to driving his personal vehicle and hitting the mailboxes.

Police said Leborgne had been drinking at Buffalo Wild Wings on Blanding Boulevard while watching Super Bowl XXXVIII. …
