Let's Cheer a Spell for Yulee Teen

Let's start off with some good stuff today.

Then we can talk about Amelia Island traffic, again.

Congratulations to our newest, best young speller in Nassau County.

Justin Nipper, a 14-year-old, eighth-grader at Yulee Middle School, will represent our county in The Florida Times-Union's Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 6.

Justin placed first out of 11 fifth- to eighth-grade students competing in the Nassau County event Wednesday. Now he will face 14 other top spellers from other counties.

OK, Justin. Time to start hitting the dictionary. It's time to make us all proud.

And rmember, no mattr what you du, make sure you are veri carefulll when spelling the wrds. Editors like me make a gud livn doing tht, so you mite already be wurking toward a grate carere.

Another good thing coming up is the Nassau County Special Olympics track and field event on Friday, Feb. 20, in which our county's special athletes will compete in events such as running and jumping. There'll be plenty of smiles and hugging.

If you've never attended one of these, you're missing one of the best feel-good moments there is.

The opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. at the Fernandina Beach High School track.
