Every magazine cover seems to be telling the blissful tale of yet another celebrity getting hitched.

We have seen the happy photos of adoration of Brad and Jennifer, Sir Paul and Heather, Madonna and Guy, Zoe and Norman, the list goes on.

Last year the Oscar-winning pregnant actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin tied the knot in a secret ceremony.

Children's TV presenters Vernon Kay and Tess Daly had a refreshingly down-to-earth wedding, shunning glossy magazine coverage.

Ulrika Jonsson married her own Mr Right Lance Gerrard-Wright after they met on the TV dating show she presented. Kate Winslet and film director Sam Mendes tied the knot in secret while on holiday.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney and Teesside-born publisher Alasdhair Willis wed, as did Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer, Liv Tyler and Spacehog lead singer Royston Langdon.

Even Britney Spears got hitched this year, albeit for only 55 hours!

The 22-year-old singer married childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in early January after spending the New Year partying with him in Sin City. She says she "wanted to see what it was like".

"Maybe that sounds silly, but in that moment I was with a friend that I love dearly and I wanted to do something wild and crazy and I wanted to get married," she said

So what do Teessiders think about marriage?


Kelly and Barry Hodgson got hitched in November last year. The childhood sweethearts met at school and have been together ever since. Nine years after they met, Kelly, 24, and Barry, 25, married in Jamaica in November.

Kelly, an administrator, from Teesville, Middlesbrough, says: "I had always wanted to get married and we'd been engaged since I was 20. But the November before we married we decided that the time was right and we should go for it.

"It doesn't feel any different. We lived together for four years before we married. I think it's important to be married if you have children and I think it makes life easier in general.

"I do believe in an each to their own view regarding marriage, whatever works for people. …
