Man Facing Charges after Motel Incident

A 40-year-old Northside man who beat a woman unconscious, ripped a toilet out of the floor and jumped through a window at a Southside motel early Jan. 31 is in jail, charged with aggravated battery, criminal mischief and resisting an officer, according to police.

Police said the woman told them she and the man were smoking crack cocaine and drinking at the motel at 2414 Philips Highway when they began arguing around midnight. The man accused the woman of stealing the drugs and began taking off her clothes and searching them, police said. When he found nothing, he began beating the woman, punching her in the face before dragging her outside and slamming her head into the concrete until she passed out, police said.

A security guard saw the man drag the naked woman outside and yelled at him. The man ran back inside his motel room and threw a chair through the front window. The guard pulled his gun and ordered him to "show your hands" several times, according to the police report. But the man went into his bathroom, wrenched the toilet out of the floor and threw it on the floor before smashing a bathroom window and jumping through it. …
