Perfect Start for JU; Jamieson Drives in Game-Winner as Dolphins Sweep B-CC to Open 2-0

The Jacksonville University baseball team allayed one of coach Terry Alexander's biggest fears Sunday, edging Bethune-Cookman College 7-6 in front of 420 at Brest Field.

Easing Alexander's mind by avoiding a repeat of last year's slow start -- the Dolphins didn't get their second win until the sixth game -- JU improved to 2-0 as catcher Alex Jamieson knocked in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

"We had some things go our way in the last couple of days," Alexander said.

The Dolphins scored three runs in the fourth inning despite not getting a hit and took the lead for good with two runs in the eighth on back-to-back hits by Sean McHugh and Jamieson.

With JU trailing 6-5, Pete Clifford opened the eighth with a single in his first collegiate at-bat and scored three batters later on a double to left-center field by McHugh.

Jamieson drove in McHugh on a single that went just past the outstretched arm of second baseman Brad Frick. …
