North entrepreneur Harvey Kirkley is the driving force behind Ride 'n' Shine, an enterprising new motor vehicle paintwork, refurbishment and valeting company, which he set up with the help of Social Enterprise Sunderland.

With more than 15 years' experience in the motor trade, including four years with Nissan in the quality control department for paintwork, Mr Kirkley decided to move into the refurbishment and valeting side of the trade and branch out on his own, offering a mobile service to businesses and the public throughout the North East.

Although he had a vast knowledge of the industry, Mr Kirkley had limited information about starting his own business.

That was when he approached SES for help, where he was allotted a full-time business start-up counsellor.

He said: "After more than a decade of working in garages and factories, I was looking for a change.

"I wanted to stay in the motor trade and realised there was a gap in the market for machine polishing - and more specifically one which is mobile. …
