Outside-half Stephen Jones believes Wales have to step up a level from their Rugby World Cup heroics if they are to launch their Six Nations campaign against Scotland tomorrow with a victory.

The Llanelli player is thrilled by the mood of optimism sweeping through the squad following their performances in Australia last October, when they came close to major upsets against New Zealand and England.

But Jones knows Steve Hansen's men need to overcome new look Scotland at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff or see their self-belief suffer a body blow.

Jones, capped 35 times, said: "We need to raise the bar from the World Cup. But we know it is going to be tough against the Scots.

"We have got a lot of self-belief in ourselves and the feelgood factor is there.

"These are exciting times for Wales. We have a young squad but it is an experienced one.

"We played well against New Zealand and against England. We scored three tries against the best team in the world so we have to take a lot of heart from that. …
