SCHOOL PLAY

The Peppermint Players of Amelia Community Theatre will perform for Nassau County preschool and elementary school students in the production Will Molly Come Marching Home?

This is the 18th Peppermint Players tour; the troupe began performing in 1981.

This year's show is written by former artistic director Mary Hurt and also was performed in schools in 1988. The show has a cast of six, plus two crew members.

The Players will be at Southside Elementary School today, Callahan Elementary School on Monday and Hilliard Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

WRITING WORKSHOP

The Nassau Institute for Community Education is sponsoring a two-day creative writing workshop at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Saturday, Feb. 28.

The workshop will be led by Mary Sue Koeppel, a published author, editor and instructor of English and Creative Writing at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. The workshop will include exercises in point of view, character development, setting, pace, dialogue, tone and imagery, as well as critiquing.

Registration for lifetime FCCJ members is $40. There is an additional $15 lifetime membership fee for new FCCJ students.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Nassau County high school seniors interested in competing for Florida Community College at Jacksonville scholarships for the 2004-05 academic year must apply by Friday, Feb. 27, to be considered.

Scholarships include the Academic Achievement Scholarships; the Eddie Reynolds Memorial Scholarships; the FCCJ/FAMU 2+2 Transfer Scholarship; the General Academic Scholarships; the Herbert Fishler Scholarships (Fernandina Beach High School only); and the Touch Tomorrow Scholarship for Young Women.

FCCJ awards several hundred scholarships each year to seniors who graduate from Nassau and Duval County high schools. The awards range from $500 to $6,000, depending on the scholarship. …
