EIGHT Premiership footballers are being quizzed by Spanish police today.

The Leicester City players had to remain behind when their team-mates flew back from a midseason break.

It followed an "incident" at a training camp at La Manga, a resort popular with footballers. La Manga managing director Tony Coles said: "I can confirm there has been an incident. The matter is between two parties. The hotel is not involved and the matter is now sub judice." Manager Micky Adams has remained with the players while they are questioned as part of an "ongoing investigation". The footballers, who have not been named, are said to be "vigorously protesting their innocence".

Mace confirmed: "The club is aware that a number of players have been interviewed by Spanish police as a result of an alleged incident which took place during a club training camp in Spain earlier this week.

"The club is co-operating with the authorities in their investigations but, as these investigations are ongoing, it is not in a position to make any further comment at this stage. …
