Cerato Is Set to Rival the Focus

One of the most important cars to be revealed at this month's Geneva motor show is an all-new Korean rival for Ford's Focus.

The Kia Cerato will replace not one but two former models - the Mentor and Shuma - when it arrives here in July.

It will herald the first ever diesel option on a Kia, which is one of the world's fastest growing car companies.

By the year 2010 Kia aims to be one of the world's top five automotive manufacturers, and the Cerato model will be a key element in its planned growth.

It will arrive here with a choice of two petrol and two advanced common-rail diesel engines, and a choice of saloon and hatchback body styles, with the latter being seen at Geneva for the first time.

The rear seats are split 60/40, and the boot capacity is almost 550 litres with the seats upright, expanding to about 1,500 litres with them folded.

The all-new 4 cylinder 1.5 CRDi diesel engine develops 102 ps of power and 215 Nm of torque, which is impressive for the size of engine. …
