Birmingham goalkeeper Maik Taylor is poised to complete a pounds 1.4m permanent move from Fulham with manager Steve Bruce insisting: "I wouldn't swap him for anyone."

Former soldier Taylor, who is currently on a season-long loan with the Blues, is set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

The Northern Ireland international has been in outstanding form for Birmingham and played a key role in their push for a European place.

Bruce said: "He's a tremendous goalkeeper and we have been delighted with his performances over the last few months.

"I am led to believe that we are very close to completing a deal for him and it is just a case of dotting a few i's and crossing the t's.

"There is a fee of pounds 1.4m and the length of the deal is four years. He is 32 but I have no qualms about paying that amount out because he is fit and looks after himself. …
