Police Briefs; Man Charged with Robbing Drugstore Clerk at Knifepoint

A 38-year-old man was arrested at 11 a.m. Feb. 24 in the 1200 block of University Boulevard North and charged with armed robbery.

Witnesses told police a man used a knife to rob a female cashier at Walgreens, 1220 University Blvd. N. The cashier said the man brought several items to the checkout, which were rung up and bagged. The man then displayed a knife and told the cashier to give him "all the money," witnesses said.

The cashier said when she told the man she was unable to open the cash drawer, he reached across the counter and ripped the drawer out. The cashier said when the man reached for the drawer she "instinctively" grabbed for it and the man slashed her hand with the knife. The cut took several stitches to close, police said.

Police arrested the suspect based on descriptions by witnesses. The cashier identified the suspect by selecting him from a series of police photographs. Police said the man denied robbing the store. …
