Morpeth's Robert Bell will race in Monaco this season with his Formula One dream still very much alive.

The 24-year-old has signed up to race in the Renault V6 Championship, a breeding ground for future F1 drivers.

And the series, a support race to the FIA Touring Car and GT championships, visits the famous street circuit in the French principality the same weekend as F1.

Bell, who finished third in the Fran-Am North American Pro Series last year, is relishing what is shaping up to be his biggest season yet in the sport.

"I did a test for Renault last year in a V6 car, which is a big step up," said Robert. "The series is used to bring drivers through to F1.

"The car looks and sounds like an F1 car and has almost 400 horsepower. On the back of that I was approached by an English team and I'm going to do the whole season, though I need to bring in some more sponsorship through the year. …
