Vicky Pepys sneaks a peek at magazines for men..

Help is at hand for men taking the plunge this spring.

The newsagent's shelves groan with wedding day titles for the bride-to-be, but the groom-to-be? Where does he get his advice? His bride? His mates? His parents? Her parents?

It would be nice to lead rather than follow the decision-making. And although weddings are to please both parties, it's reassuring when one of you takes the lead.

Two worthy wedding tomes have just been released, especially for men, with objective and up-to-date advice and guidance on the wedding day.

Publisher Chris Hanage launched his new men's magazine Stag & Groom two weeks ago. So unusual is a magazine like this that he's already appeared on Richard and Judy, This Morning and even been interviewed on Radio 4's Today programme.

He says: "We have really hit a chord. I came up with the idea for the magazine because of a couple of horrid mistakes I made when I got married, and ones that I heard that other people had made."

His weren't so bad when you hear what they were. One was failing to send a gift to his bride prior to the ceremony. "A courier arrived with a pair of cufflinks from my girlfriend for me to wear. My best man said, `what did you send her?' and of course there was a stunned silence.

"There's also no-one who you can trust to help with speeches," although he won't expand on the actual details.

Stag & Groom is a magazine aimed at the late 20 to late 30-year-old man. "Although less people are marrying these days, they are marrying at a later age which indicates they are marrying for the right reasons; and they are possibly paying for it themselves rather than relying on parental help," Chris says.

"Any divorce demographics which threaten the women's bridal publication market are in fact boosting the interest in our magazine."

If the sales of the magazine are any indication, then men really do want to get it right first time. …
