Tenacious trio Danny Phillips, Tom Collins and Josh Leather will represent Teesside in the finals of the National Schoolboys Championships.

All three powered into next weekend's title deciders at Dagenham following spectacular semi-final triumphs.

Southpaw Danny (South Bank ABC) was at his strong and aggressive best in repeatedly wobbling Tom Jones (Skelmersdale) on the way to a Class 2, 48kg points decision.

Gritty Tom (Middlesbrough ABC) set the pace against rangy southpaw Grant Brown (Boarshaw) and received the nod for a ninth straight success at Class 1, 45kg.

And minors' 34 kilo contender Josh (Ray Hood ABC) displayed the skills passed on by Gary Bowes senior in getting the better of S Taylor (St Helens) for another distance victory at Everton Park Sports Centre, Liverpool.

Phillips now meets Davey Docherty of Watford's Bushey ABC in the final.

Collins - who is originally from London and trained at the famous Repton club before settling on Teesside - squares up to Jack Kerr (West Ham), with Leather facing an opponent to be announced.

HARD-punching Halfpenny ABC gained full marks on their travels.

Curtis Maloney gave a good account of himself in outscoring last year's national schoolboy finalist Alan Leak (Northside ABC) at Kendal Town Hall.

Team-mate Sean Redman outpointed Michael Clarkson (Elite ABC) on the same bill.

Liam Hartley and Craig Pollock then followed up to make it four wins in a week for the club at Newcastle Civic Centre.

Liam uncorked a vicious left hook to knock out John Linden (Hilton Castle) in round two, with Craig earning a points's verdict over Linden's team-mate William Moult.

MIDDLESBROUGH ABC scored three wins from four bouts on a card put together by Sheffield Boxing Centre. Shaun and Chris Peacock picked up unanimous verdicts against T Saeed (Rotherham) and L Akers (Sheffield) respectively. …
