Three burglars were disturbed in a raid at the Cambridge Hotel in Fulwell Road, Sunderland, at 2am yesterday. They ran off into the Tyzac estate. Call police on (0191) 454 7555 ext 66126.

Cattle singed

Twelve cattle were rescued by firefighters from a blazing barn at East Grange Farm, at Ryton, Gateshead today.The cows survived, although a few were singed. Police are investigating the blaze which broke out in the hay at 3am.

Animals saved

SIX greyhounds, a horse and a pony were rescued from a stable fire at Gally's Gill allotments, off Farringdon Row, Sunderland, at 11pm last night. Firefighters prevented flames from spreading to other blocks where 12 greyhounds and another horse were kept. Police are investigating.
