Sexy women and hunky men are almost as big a distraction to drivers as mobile phones, according to a new survey.

Using a mobile is still seen as the worst distraction for drivers, almost four months after the introduction of new regulations outlawing the use of hand-held mobiles in cars.

But staring at "sexy" passers-by in the street also ranks high on a list of major distractions for both male and female drivers, according to the survey conducted by an insurance company.

Surprised by a lack of official statistics on the subject, specialist car insurer Adrian Flux Insurance polled more than 500 of its customers to find out what they think is most likely to distract them when they are behind the wheel.

And although many of the results were predictable, the research threw up some unexpected findings.

Many drivers said that they were distracted by passengers in their cars talking, while roadside posters and even shop window displays figured high in the top ten items which can cause drivers to lose their concentration. …
