Toon star Lomana Lua Lua is allowing his three-year-old son to live in poverty, according to the child's mother.

The Newcastle United striker, currently on loan to Portsmouth, earns pounds 18,000 a week but is slow to support the child who lives in an East London tower block with his mother Mimita Bofando, a national newspaper reported today.

Ms Bofando, 22, claims she has been so poor that she has had to give up meals to feed her child. The claims are denied by the player who insists he makes regular monthly payments to her bank account.

She claimed: "It makes my blood boil to see Lomana swanning around in his Mercedes with his flashy clothes. Whenever I pluck up the courage to ask him for help he swears he is flat broke."

Ms Bofando, born in the Congo like Lua Lua, met the star in a nightclub while he was playing for Colchester before his move to Newcastle. …
