PORTO, winners of the UEFA Cup last season, put themselves in the driving seat of their quarterfinal with a 2-0 first leg home win over Lyon.

Porto, who knocked out Manchester United in the last round, went ahead in the 44th minute when Deco Souza scored.

Ricardo Carvalho headed the second after 71 minutes to maintain Porto's record of not having lost at home to a French side for over 30 years. Coach Jose Mourinho said: "There are still 90 minutes to go in the tie."

Kaka gives Milan edge

DEFENDING champions AC Milan scored four times in nine minutes to move within touching distance of the Champions League semi-finals with a 4-1 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna.

The Italians fell behind to a Walter Pandiani header at the San Siro but Brazilian midfielder Kaka struck twice, with Andriy Shevchenko and Andrea Pirlo also on target. Coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "It was an incredible performance."
