Avenue Boys Make It a Cardiff Double

It's a Millennium Stadium double! A Teesside school have followed in their heroes' footsteps by winning major silverware at the scene of Boro's Carling Cup Final triumph in Cardiff.

The six-a-side boys from the Avenue School in Nunthorpe beat off competition from thousands of teams to lift the Kelloggs Frosties Trophy after a 2-1 win over Our Lady's Primary from Oxford in the national final.

The youngsters, who are all from the school's Years Five and Six, won the prestigious event in the Welsh capital in a game played before the LDV Vans Trophy Final between Blackpool and Southend.

Daniel Johnson's double strike helped the Teesside lads emulate Boro's historic cup victory over Bolton.

To mark the occasion, Boro took the Carling Cup to the school yesterday when the lads' achievement was honoured in a full assembly.

The Football League's Richard Finney also attended, along with Middlesbrough Council's chief education officer Terry Redmayne. …
