If your 165mph MG SV supercar is a tad too slow, fear not, for a faster version is now available.

For those in a particular hurry, there is a top speed increase to 175mph, and a reduction in the 0-60mph acceleration time of half a second or so.

That may seem pretty academic, but not for a car that hopes to lure buyers away from Porsches and Ferraris at pounds 83,000 a time.

When the standard MG XPower SV first arrived it carried a price tag of pounds 75,000, which has now dropped to pounds 65,750.

This means that this new more powerful version carries a hefty pounds 15,000-plus premium which is likely to make it one of the most exclusive cars on the road.

The standard SV uses a 4.6-litre V8 engine with 320bhp, and 410 Nm of pulling power reaching the rear wheels.

The new SV-R version gets a 5.0-litre V8 engine producing a whopping 400bhp, plus a massive increase in torque to a new high of 510 Nm.

The gurgling V8 engine is built in conjunction with tuning specialist Sean Hyland, and to keep the extra power under control, the SV-R is fitted with larger diameter Brembo disc brakes. …
