AN uncle of three of the men being held today said MI5 had tried to pressure them into leaving the country weeks before they were arrested.

Saajjad Ahmad, 40, a property developer, said the agent, known only as Golding, phoned "out of the blue".

He said the officer told him there were serious concerns over his nephews' links to leading fundamentalist figures. Mr Ahmad said over the course of the month the agent applied increasing pressure on him to persuade Omar and Shujah Khayam and Ahmad Khan to leave the country.

Mr Ahmad said: "I met the agent three times. On the first occasion we met in my car in the car park of Sainsbury's in Crawley. He told me that there were two branches of terror suspects MI5 was interested

in - those who threatened national security and those who did not. …
