INDEPENDENCE AIR TAKES OFF JUNE 16

Independence Air, which may begin flying to Jacksonville, said that it will take to the skies June 16 from its hub at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. The upstart low-fare airline said it will announce prices, destinations and schedules in May. Independence Air has said Jacksonville ranks high among cities it might serve from the more than 300 daily departures it plans from Dulles. The airline is being formed out of Atlantic Coast Airlines, a regional jet carrier that flies under such banners as United Express for United Airlines. The launch of Independence Air was on hold until Atlantic Coast was released from its contract by bankrupt United Airlines; that occurred Monday.

UNITED WAY HONORS 200 DONORS, LEADERS

United Way of Northeast Florida honored more than 200 donors last week for raising more than $1,000 to nearly $10,000. Among the honorees were 12 businesses and organizations that received awards for significant fund-raising.

The United Way said gifts from its "Leadership Circle" represented 33 percent of the organization's total donations during the 2003 campaign. The following companies received leadership giving awards: Payday of America, Florida Bank of Jacksonville, JEA, Wachovia, Jacksonville Children's Commission, Bombardier Capital, CSX Corp., Jacksonville Jaguars, State Farm Insurance, VyStar Credit Union, Bank of America, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and ATS Services Inc.

NASSAU BANK FIRM POSTS 2003 EARNINGS

First Capital Bank Holding Corp., the parent company of First National Bank of Nassau County, said Tuesday net income for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 reached $1,922,194, compared with $1,906,577 for the same period in 2002.

First Capital reported earning per share of $1.87 for 2003, the same amount as the prior year, the company said in a news release. …
