The Northern Area season continues tomorrow with the Braes of Derwent fixture at Downhills near Corbridge, which has 115 entries on a seven-race card starting at 1.30pm.

Uncle Neil ran a cracker on his second career outing when runner-up to the useful Go Nomadic in the Tynedale Men's Open, and next time out he was just touched off by Briery Hill at Dalston. This exciting seven-year-old prospect faces an easier task in the Open Maiden and is napped to get off the mark.

Emperor's Magic looked like springing a surprise in last week's four-mile Mixed Open at Alnwick until coming to the end of his tether approaching the last and surrendering the initiative to Passing Danger and Spring Double. Provided he has recovered from that energy-sapping effort, Susan Ward's ex-chaser goes after smaller fry in the Members' Race and can land the spoils.

Three Spires has been a revelation this term since joining Tim Reed's yard and should make it three wins from his last four starts in the Intermediate Race. …
