A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal bus crash on a railway bridge.

The crash, in the Bootham area of York, killed a 49-year-old passenger and injured four others, including the bus driver.

The accident happened as the single-decker bus was taking nightclub customers home shortly before 2am on Friday and caused the closure of a major rail route.

Call for cull

A FORMER Labour minister has suggested that Scotland should consider carrying out a seal cull.

Western Isles MSP and former deputy enterprise minister Alasdair Morrison said decision makers needed to discuss the controversial move.

He said: "Culls are not unique to the Outer Hebrides or indeed to other parts of Scotland.

"It happens in terms of mink, hedgehog and deer and again, if required, it should also happen (with) the seal population around the Hebrides and around the British Isles."
