Proud mums and dads only have a few days left to enter their bundle of joy in our competition to find the bonniest baby in the North East.

Scores of parents turned up at the MetroCentre to have their babies photographed at the start of our free competition.

And it's been non-stop snapping ever since with our photographers rushed off their feet.

They have photographed 1,100 babies so far and by Saturday, the last day of our search for our very own Baby Idol, the number is likely to be between 1,500 and 1,600.

Photographer Kevin Holroyd has been taking pictures of bonny babies for 18 years so he knows a trick or two about how to coax out the best smile.

"On the whole the babies have been well-behaved, although we have had a few tantrums," said Kevin.

Kevin will be in the Red Mall, near Next on the first floor, until Saturday, between 10am and 5pm each day.

So if your little boy or girl could be our Baby Idol and you have an entry form, which appeared in the Chronicle before April 9, all you have to do is bring him or her along to have their picture taken. …
