Dynamic Dave Lund outpaced 55 riders to claim first place in Bishop Auckland Cycling Club's wind-swept time trial.

Lund, of Great Ayton's newly-formed Bike Traks team, completed the rolling course between Hamsterley and Woodland in 1hr 21min and 48sec.

The Ormesby rider's time was almost a minute faster than last year's winning mark and almost two minutes quicker than Hartlepool triathlete and runner-up Chris Lax.

Cleveland Coureur Paul Fountain took fourth spot in 1hr 25min 23sec, followed by Teesside duo Simon Coates (Cleveland Wheelers) and Derek Campbell (Stockton) in seventh and eighth.

Simon Baxter completed a great day at the office for Bike Traks by completing one lap of the course in 44min 8sec to win the junior-juvenile category.

The race was round four of Teesside Cycling Association's sporting courses (SPOCO) series, which continues this Sunday with Stockton Wheelers' event - a 23-miler at Bishopton.

EVERGREEN trike ace Les Dawson emerged from the rain victorious as round one of the Veterans' Time Trial Association North series arrived at Crathorne.

The 77-year-old trimmed over five minutes off his target finish in hitting top spot after ten soggy miles.

Mike Harris (Northumbria Police) was fastest on actual time in 23min 44sec, good enough for second on standard, with Mark Mather (Ferryhill Wheelers) best of the senior bunch with 24min 43sec. …
