Campaigners furious at plans to cut rail services on Teesside are asking passengers to air their views.

From next month the number of trains travelling directly between Teesside and Tyneside is to be slashed.

But service watchdog the Rail Passengers Committee (RPC) has claimed there was no consultation before the announced cuts.

Members are to conduct a survey. They will be at Darlington station tomorrow talking to people about changes to the East Coast Mainline.

They will also be travelling on the affected trains seeking passengers' views.

Christine Knights, chairwoman of the RPC, said: "It is imperative that those who make such important decisions take into account the views of the passengers."

Under the changes Tyne-Tees trains using the East Coast Mainline will be reduced from 19 services a day to four, forcing many passengers travelling between Teesside and Tyneside to change at Darlington.
