Longstaff Gives the Vipers a Boost

Great Britain captain David Longstaff has reaffirmed his commitment to the Newcastle Vipers by agreeing a new two-year contract with the Findus Cup winners.

Longstaff's signing is expected to be the first of many by the Findus British National League side before player-coach Rob Wilson returns home to Canada in the middle of next month.

The club's owner Darryl Illingworth described the news as "great for the club."

He added: "We didn't see the best of David last season because of his injury and I expect him to show just how good he can be next season. I have great respect for him and I know that he is as ambitious for the club as I am."

While Illingworth refused to be drawn on the club's recruitment plans he also expressed his admiration for another player the Vipers almost certainly would want to return, winger Jonathan Weaver.

He is known to be a target for a number of clubs, including the Nottingham Panthers from the Elite Ice Hockey League. …
